SYRAH:
2007 Syrah, Collins Vineyard
An inky, dark color where purple and ruby meet and co-mingle leads to aromas of blackcurrants, blackberry pie, caramelized brown sugar, vanilla, smoky oak and anise. Tasting begins with a big, rich, bold entry, deep saturated blackberry with notes of vanilla, smoke and pie crust. A fat middle palate with a taught acid edge and balanced tannins leads to a finish of blackberry jam and mild spice. Not for the faint of heart. This is a powerful syrah with really intense character, big on fruit and long on flavor; great depth and expression, with the pedigree for cellaring. California Syrah has been slow to be recognized as one of the great wines of the west. Different from the Antipodean jam bombs and the tannic earthy expressions from France, CA Syrah, grown on good soil with a low yield gives forth a wine of immense structure, with pleasing fruit and delightful flavors. The wine pairs with a multitude of foods and is very approachable young. With age, like most wines, the rough edges disappear and the fruit and oak become more integrated and the palate more round and even richer!

1023, A Blend of Syrah and Zinfandel
Winemaker Comments:
1023, A Blend of Syrah and Zinfandel. This wine is called 1023 after the address of the Collins Vineyard on Limerick Lane in Healdsburg. The Zinfandel vines are grown on clay loam soils and are all crown pruned. The average age of these Zinfandel vines is over 50 years old. The Syrah is half crown pruned and half trellised. The Syrah vines were planted in 1987.
Tasting Notes:
A very dark purple color is a brilliant prelude to aromas of cooked blackberry and black currant with a hint of Bing cherry as well caramel, vanilla and sweet oak, pie crust, and barrel char, smoky, tobacco and cedar. This wine enters the mouth with big blackberry fruit and a hint of blueberry with fabulous density. The middle palate is saturated with beautifully balanced tannins and acid with amazing purity and texture. The finish lingers with beautiful fruit and barrel flavors. The 2007 vintage of 1023 is our best to date. The long cool growing season produced a fabulous depth to the flavors resulting in a wine that is full, supple, ripe and rather splendid. In order to let the fruit shine, we matched this with 30% new oak barrels rather than swamp it with new oak flavors. We retained the blend at 50% Zin and 50% Syrah and used both French and Hungarian Oak barrels. Pair this with a roasted leg of lamb, braised short ribs or your favorite winter squash recipe.
Only 150 cases were produced.

FURMINT:
NV* Late Harvest Furmint, Estate Grown (375ml bottles)
Limerick Lane is probably the only commercial producer of Furmint in the United States. We have grown the grape along with its complementary Hungarian cousin, Harslevelu since the early 1980’s.
The NV Late Harvest Furmint is a blend of three vintages, 2002, 2003 and 2004. All three vintages produced very small crops of very sweet grapes with some raisins and botrytized fruit but not enough quantity to produce a vintage wine each year.
The blend was stored as per tradition in old oak barrels for a minimum of three years. The wine was racked and topped twice per year.
The wine exudes the traditional aromas and flavors of a Tokaji Aszu; a beautiful golden yellow color and aromas of apricots and honey. In the mouth the richness of the fruit comes through, the flavors of dried fruits, toasted nuts and honey. The acidity is well balanced and keeps the fruit flavors alive, all the way to the finish.
On the sweetness scale used in Hungary this wine is a 3 puttonyos or 70 grams per liter. The wine is best paired with cheeses or not very sweet desserts. In Hungary such a wine would also be served with Foie Gras or similar savory dishes. Indeed it is best as dessert itself.
NV* = Non-Vintage
$60 per 375ml bottle, $720 per case (12x375ml)
