2016 Rocky Knoll Zinfandel
The Russian River Valley gently slopes upward, eastward from the sea, before leveling off at Limerick Lane. Our estate is sort of like a bench that sits 200 feet above sea level. With one exception: in the far northeast corner of Limerick Lane, the topography seems to suddenly hiccup, jutting skyward… giving way to The Rocky Knoll. Our Zinfandel don’t necessarily thrive, but they do survive in this unique environment.
Not only is this block steeper and drier, it’s the rockiest ground on our estate. And why it is field blended with two of our most tannic and structured grape varieties — Mourvedre and Petite Sirah — boggles the mind. However, the result is the richest, gutsiest and most intense wine on the property.
Thanks to its focused fruit, muscular tannins, and bountiful acid, the Rocky Knoll Block is a wine that roars whenever you open the bottle. Whether that night is tonight or twenty years from now.
