2 bottles 2015 1910 Block Zinfandel & 2 bottles 2015 Rocky Knoll Zinfandel
1910 Block Zinfandel
The historic Limerick Lane Estate was first planted to grapes in 1910 by the Del Fava family. The original homestead still stands on the estate as well. We still have just under 5 acres of these original vines in production and they are truly the crown jewel of the estate. Interplanted with historic mixed black varieties the likes of Peloursin, Negrette, Alicante Bouchet, Syrah, and Petite Sirah, the 1910 Block is not only historic, it is completely unique in its percentage of varieties planted. We pick and co-ferment all of the varieties and don’t control the influence of the “mixed blacks” preferring instead to allow them to define their own role in the resulting wine. 1910 Block is not only an extraordinary wine, it is a wholly unique piece of California history.
Rocky Knoll Zinfandel
The Rocky Knoll is a 2.5 acre block on the north east corner of the Estate. This is the steepest, rockiest driest part of the property and in addition, it is the only block where the Zinfandel is field blended with Petite Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Syrah. These factors individually lead towards bolder flavors. Collectively, they produce the most masculine, powerful, intense wine from the Estate. This wine is consistently the last wine released of the vintage and on release is usually already three years old. Not for the faint of heart, this wine begs for the heartiest of foods and occasions.
