2018 Cole Ranch Riesling
If you ask a sommelier or winemaker which whites they most like to drink, there is almost always a Riesling on the list. We are no different, gravitating towards German and Austrian versions that are refreshing, food-friendly and quaffable. Those wines were the inspiration behind our first Riesling, which has been sourced from a vineyard known as Cole Ranch in Mendocino County. This is a unique site in that it is a single-vineyard that is also an appellation. A typical American Viticultural Area (AVA) is comprised of numerous small vineyards that make up the entire appellation. This tiny AVA is only 190 total acres with about 60 acres planted, of which only a few are Riesling. We ferment this in stainless steel to keep it fresh and leave a touch of residual sugar, which offsets its racy natural acidity to create a balanced, fresh, and delicious wine.
